GARLAND, Texas (NBC News/KXAN) – Police in two cities were involved in a dramatic high speed chase Tuesday afternoon that ended with a suspect being tased and arrested in the middle of a busy interstate.

Police say the chase started when they responded to a report of a suspicious person at a department store.

One person was arrested inside the store, but a man in a pickup truck outside drove away, heading the wrong way along the President George Bush Turnpike.

After leading police on a chase, the driver exited the vehicle, running onto Interstate 30.

The suspect jumped a median, racing into traffic before he was tased by officers, narrowly missed by passing cars.

Police were able to stop traffic and pull the man onto a service road, where he was checked out by paramedics.

Officers with the Garland Police Department worked with Texas Department of Public Safety troopers to arrest the man. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
