AUSTIN (KXAN) — In a traumatic event children cling to any kind of comfort. The flashing lights and uniformed officers can seem scary.

To help keep kids calm during a fire, crash, or medical emergency, Austin police will be giving out teddy bears. Providing a child with something soft and cuddly can ease the stress felt in these situations.

The teddy bears were given to the police force by the Austin Junior Forum, a non-profit volunteer-based organization. The group works to support women and children in Austin.
