AUSTIN (KXAN) — Get ready to take detour for the rest of October if you frequent West 35th Street.

Lanes of West 35th are no being repaved between MoPac and Jefferson Street. The city’s Public Works Department says the current pavement is failing and lined with potholes. The repaving will start at 6 p.m. and end at 6 a.m., every night through Oct. 30

Most of the businesses that line 35th Street will not be affected by the repaving project as paving will only happen before and after opening hours. A spokesperson for Austin-Travis County EMS says their agency might have issues reaching St. David’s Hospital or Seton Medical Center. The nightly lane closures will close one lane in each direction, which would leave little room for vehicles to give the right of way to an ambulance. Seton Medical Center says the city has arranged for flaggers to control traffic to make sure ambulances have clear access to the emergency room. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
