AUSTIN (KXAN)- The Epilepsy Foundation says about 50,000 children are diagnosed with epilepsy every year. For parents, getting an epilepsy diagnosis for your child can be frightening and challenging. But advanced treatments and comprehensive care can help improve the quality of life for kids with epilepsy.

Doctors at Dell Children’s Medical Center provide a high level of care for pediatric epilepsy patients because the hospital has a level 4 epilepsy program. For example, researchers at the hospital are currently studying a drug to treat a form of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

Everyone is encouraged to wear purple next month to show their support for people with the condition. November is Epilepsy Awareness Month.
