Free fun this weekend in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — From movies in the park, to a Star Wars maze challenge, find out what free fun Austin has in store for those who don’t plan on going to Austin City Limits. 

  1. Movies at Lake Park featuring Disney’s Mulan: Head to Mueller Lake Park with your friends and family for movies in the park. Mulan will begin at dusk, but those who arrive early can enjoy a performance by The Love of China Dance School at 7 p.m. The park is located at 4550 Mueller Blvd, Austin.
  2. Family Program Tall Tales: Don’t forget to RSVP on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the storytelling workshop. Located at The Contemporary Austin, you can learn how to write a titillating tale with the Austin Bat Cave, a local creative writing organization. Attendees will make their own comic book and participate in a little improv theater.
  3. Star Wars Reads Day: May the force be with these Jedis as the battle in a nerf games with lightsabers in a maze challenge on Saturday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Don’t forget to wear your Jedi or Sith robes for Padawan storytime. There will also be a costume contest. The event is free at Windsor Park Branch.
  4. Classical Music for the World Fall Concert: On Saturday at 4 p.m. everyone is invited to the free concert at the Oak Hills United Methodist Church. The classical concert, Strings Gift, will feature music music by Motzart, Ravel, and Halvorsen.
  5. Southpark after dark fall concert: Watch the Latin rock band Vallejo play live music for free at the Grove at Southpark Meadows. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
