SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — A 27-year-old man who was doing work at a Texas State University student housing is accused of sexually assaulting a female student, according to an arrest affidavit.
Texas State University police said Heriberto Solis, who works for Grande Communications, was called to the Bobcat Village Apartments, located at 1301 Aquarena Springs Drive, on Tuesday afternoon to complete a work order at an apartment. While at the unit, the victim said Solis began kissing her and when she told him to stop, he said, “No, I know you want it,” continued in the affidavit.
The victim said the assault continued until her roommate came into the apartment. According to the affidavit, the victim was able to escape to the restroom as Solis left.
“That’s really scary,” said Texas State sophomore Jaida Grace who lives at the complex. “Especially being a girl living here and just thinking that you’re safe.”
Solis was arrested and charged with sexual assault on Wednesday. He is currently out of jail on a $20,000 bond.
“We are rattled any time something bad happens,” said Matt Flores, a spokesperson for Texas State University.
Flores said the university has a contract with Grande Communications for the cable service at Bobcat Village, but he could not say if the company requires background checks on its employees who come onto campus to do work.
Two or three years ago, Flores said the university started requiring outside vendors to do them and include it in their contracts with Texas State, however, Grande Communications renewed their contract in 2012, and it was not part of the agreement.
KXAN reached out to Grande Communications to ask if they perform employee background checks, and what information they could provide about Solis’ employment history, but they only issued the following statement: “Grande is aware of a potential legal matter and pursuant to company policy will have no comment on this matter due to its ongoing status.”
Even with a background check, it does not appear Solis had a criminal history.
Police say the sexual assault is unrelated to an attack at the same apartment complex, on the same day, involving a person dressed as a clown.
