WACO, Texas (KXAN) — An alert sent out to Baylor University students in Waco warned of a shooting suspect approaching campus, Thursday afternoon. The university sent out the “all clear” at around 3:40 p.m.

Students and staff were told to seek shelter immediately following the incident near the intersection of Ivy Avenue and Seventh Street.

Waco police said they were investigating a murder at Eighth Street and Garrett Avenue. Officers say a group was gambling on a vacant lot when a man approached on foot and started shooting. One of the men was shot and later died. A tweet from Baylor University described the suspect as a black male in his late teens or early 20s with a fade haircut, wearing a white tank top and tan shorts.

Police are searching for the suspect who left the scene on foot and then got into a car and leaving the area.
