Get the 411 on Makeup Brushes

While we love having Karen Powanda on set, we had even more fun going to visit her in her studio. This time she shared her wealth of knowledge on brushes. There are two basic types: natural and synthetic. The tighter, synthetic brushes are great for laying down product such as a cream or liquid makeup. While the natural brushes are better for blending. She also gave us some tips on contouring with a brush. Choose one with an angular shape and apply to the meaty part of the cheek. Another tip she shared was in regard to eye makeup. Use a tighter brush to lay down your eye shadow, then choose a natural brush to blend and set the look. Kiss N Makeup is located on Burnet Road. You can check out all their services online at or call 512-388-1150. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
