AUSTIN (KXAN) — As many prepare for ACL festivities, it’s important to take care of your ears while listening to the live music.

Audiologist Janet Davila with the Austin Diagnostic Clinic says the peak loudness a your ear can hit is 150 decibels, even if you are around a festival like ACL, sound can hit up to 91 decibels for an hour. Davila says you can only sustain these loud sounds for one hour before sustaining hearing loss.

“A lot of people think that when you hear a loud sound and you get used to it that that means there’s no damage but a lot of times when you get used to a loud sound, it’s because you have damage in your ear”

Gigi Barnett was in the studio with Davila to talk about the importance of preventing hearing loss during festivals. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
