SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN)– The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is joining forces starting Oct. 1 with a program credited with saving over 8 million pets since 1999.
Home 4 the Holidays was created to help provide pets with forever homes all over the globe by matching them with loving families. The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is joining the program by providing $20 dog adoptions that include sterilization, rabies vaccination, de-worming, general health check, micro-chipping and testing for heart worms throughout the month of October.
“In an average year we see thousands of misplaced or homeless animals. I think it is so important that we, as a community, step up to make sure shelter animals are getting a fair shot at a happy, forever home,” said Erin McCann, Animal Shelter Supervisor.
The shelter is taking a step further to help the orphaned pets find homes by offering 50 percent off of adoption fees for select animals during Home 4 the Holidays’ entire campaign from Oct. 1 through Jan. 2, 2017.
“We are so proud to be a part of this amazing campaign and are dedicated to placing these animals in homes that will love and care of them for what we sincerely hope to be the rest of their furry little lives,” McCann said.
Home 4 the Holidays has grown into the largest pet adoption drive in the world and was founded by the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter in San Diego. The campaign had a humble beginning with only 14 participating animal shelters in San Diego County when it launched in 1999. The program facilitated over 1.2 million pet adoptions in 2015 alone.
