AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 12-year-old boy has been hit by a car in Central Austin while riding his bike at 7:34 a.m. Friday morning, according to Austin/Travis County EMS.

The boy was hit by a grey Volkswagen on Burnet Road and Koenig Lane. The driver stayed at the scene to see if the boy was okay.

According to Austin police, the boy is up and walking around. He has non-life threatening injuries and did not need to be transported to a hospital for treatment.

Southbound Burnet and westbound Koenig Lane were closed while police investigated the crash, but they have now reopened.

The cyclist was hit just south of where Officer Amir Abdul-Khaliq was killed while escorting a funeral procession on his motorcycle. The driver who hit him is facing new charges for cutting through the procession when she saw a gap between the officers.
