AUSTIN (KXAN) — The installation will soon be completed for the Texas African American History Memorial.
The State Preservation Board is behind the new memorial. It will be located at the State Capitol on the south lawn.
The monument is dedicated to the African American experience in Texas. Austinites will be able to see the full spectrum of history from exploration, to slavery, emancipation, and achievements in art and science.
The final statuary elements will be put into place after months of work. The memorial should be completed by noon on Tuesday.
Since 1983, the State Preservation Board has been working to preserve Texas history at the Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, General Land Office Building, Texas State Cemetery and the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.
