AUSTIN (KXAN) — A student was walking on Collinfield Drive to her North Austin high school Tuesday morning when a man with a gun got of a car and demanded her cell phone.

The Austin Independent School District says the student then showed the man she didn’t have a phone. The man, and three other men with him, left the area.

Unharmed, the student ran to campus, located at 1201 Payton Gin Rd., and reported the incident. Austin police were called at around 6:30 a.m. Authorities say they do not have a description of the suspects available.

“We are glad our student is safe and commend her for reporting the incident immediately,” Principal Ryan Hopkins said in a letter to parents. “We also want to encourage our students to walk with a friend or classmate whenever possible.”

AISD police are investigating the incident.

In April, another student was walking home from Lanier when a man approached the student and forced her into a vehicle. A neighbor heard screaming and saw the teen fighting a man outside his front door at around 4:50 p.m. on April 11. While the student was injured, the neighbor was able to help her escape the suspect, who was later arrested. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
