AUSTIN (KXAN) — A teenage male was shot in southeast Austin Thursday afternoon. Austin police say the suspect left in a vehicle and the public is not in danger.

Officers were called to the 5900 block of East Stassney Lane — near Nuckols Crossing Road — at 1:31 p.m. First responders found the shooting victim alert, conscious and breathing.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics took the teenager to South Austin Medical Center with potentially serious injuries. No one else was injured in the shooting.

“I was pretty shocked because no one has ever got shot here that I know of,” said Zayy Jones, who lives in the apartment complex. “It’s kind of peculiar I guess. Mostly break-ins and stuff [happen here], no one ever really gets shot.”

Investigators do not know how many suspects are involved, but are calling it an isolated incident that did not require area schools to be locked down.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call Austin Police.
