AUSTIN (KXAN) — Robert Potter was honored by the Texas Navy Association at the Texas State Cemetery on Wednesday.

Potter was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and fought at San Jacinto, the association said, in the battle that earned Texas freedom from Mexico.

George Rollow with the Texian Legacy Association, said, “Everyone who has been through fourth grade and seventh grade in Texas schools has learned about the Texas Army. But the Texas Navy played very pivotal roles in the revolution.”

Also being honored are Republic of Texas Captain Robert Oliver, Marine Corps; Midshipmen Fielding Culp, Navy; and Lieut. Charles Fuller, Navy.
