BUDA, Texas (KXAN) — The Department of Public Safety took part in a simulated helicopter rescue training exercise on Wednesday in Buda.

The training took place at the Buda Fire Department’s training tower.

The goal of the exercise is for DPS staff to train on rescuing citizens from rooftops, windows and trees during flooding events.

“It’s amazing, I mean you can’t explain it, the adrenaline is so substantial that you can’t put it into words; however, you have to focus and concentrate the whole time, otherwise something could happen that would be dreadfully horrible,” a participating San Antonio police officer said.

DPS aircraft flew around the facility and made landings next to the fire station to switch out crews during the exercise.
