BROWNWOOD, Texas (AP) — Court records show that a 17-year-old charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of his father and stepmother at their West Texas home had planned on killing them for two weeks.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by Abilene television station KTXS, Cody Flores said he was mad at his father for not letting him move in with his grandmother.
Officials say Abuith Flores and Ophelia Lucio were shot to death as they slept early Saturday in their home near Lake Brownwood. Flores used a .22 caliber rifle.
Brown County Sheriff George Caldwell says Cody Flores called 911 and claimed the two were shot in a home invasion, but the teen’s story kept changing and he eventually confessed to the slayings.
As to why he waited until Saturday to carry out the murders, Flores said it “was the first time he has thought of using a gun instead of a knife,” according to the police records.
Flores remained jailed Monday on $500,000 bond. Jail records don’t list an attorney for him.
