SAN ANTONIO (AP/WOAI) — Authorities say they’ve confiscated more than 11,000 pieces of jewelry from a San Antonio store after investigators found stolen items in a store safe.
A spokesperson for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said Monday the investigation began last month when six residents in the Stone Oak area reported stolen jewelry. Authorities determined the residents used the same cleaning woman and Hughes says stolen items were found in a safe at La Joyeria International jewelry store.
Police have recovered about $2 million worth of stolen jewelry but said the investigation continues and they’re still trying to determine how many people were involved and how many victimized.
Hughes says the cleaning woman is cooperating with investigators and no charges have been filed yet.
A reporter with WOAI said when he spoke with the people at the jewelry store they denied knowing the jewelry was stolen.
