iPhone 7 released by Apple Sept. 16

AUSTIN (KXAN) –The new iPhone 7 release at the Apple store in the Domain was met with applause by Austinites waiting in line before the doors opened Friday morning.

Apple is telling customers the phone will be in short supply. The 7 Plus is already sold out from pre-orders.

KXAN photographer Daniel Guerrero talked to a mom who woke up early just to make sure her son gets the new phone. However, she is not looking forward to the new earbuds.

Daniel: “People already loose headphones do you think people will loose the new ones even faster?”

Mother: “Even faster ya. I wanna say they said they were like 200 dollars for the little ya (laughs).”

Daniel: “How do you feel about that?”

Mother: “Pretty pricey.”

People in Australia became the first in the world to buy the new phone. An estimated 200 people lined up in the rain. One shopper got in line two days early only to be faced with disappointment.

“I’m happy personally to get the matte black 7, like I’m cool with that but I’m still very sad that I’m not going to get a jet black phone,” said Marcus Barsoum. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
