MANOR, Texas (KXAN) — Manor Excel Academy and Manor Alternative Placement (MAP) had to be placed on lockdown for approximately 30 minutes after students assaulted a principal Wednesday afternoon.

The Manor Police Department said they originally responded to the Manor Alternative Placement school (which is housed on the Manor Excel Academy campus) around 1:10 p.m. for a disturbance involving a student and the principal, Dr. Marcus Jones. Police say the incident started when the student, 17-year-old Osifo Cameron, got upset when he wasn’t allowed to get on a school bus that was at the school to pick up students to take them to lunch. Dr. Jones tried to calm Cameron down and “stood in between” the student and the bus door but police say the student pushed past the principal and then started “throwing punches” at him.

When officers arrived at the school, Cameron was already restrained by school staff. However, five other students had to be handcuffed because police say they were interfering with the initial incident. The five additional students, Alexis Rosales, 17; Javon Clar, 18; Janishi Coleman, 17; and two 15-year-olds will be charged with interfering with public duties. Cameron is charged with assault on a public servant.

The principal sustained minor injuries and was treated at the school. None of the students were injured.

Even though the fight happened on the MAP campus, as a precaution, Manor Excel Academy was placed on lockdown as well.

As of Wednesday night, all but Cameron were still in jail.
