9-year-boy hit by car in East Austin remains hospitalized

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 9-year-old boy who was hit while crossing the road in his East Austin neighborhood Monday is still in the hospital in critical according to Dell Children’s Medical Center.

The crash report indicates the 29-year-old driver, who lives in the Mueller neighborhood, was going eastbound on Antone Street towards Airport Boulevard when Ben Sears stepped out from behind a parked vehicle and was hit by the driver. The driver stayed at the scene and was not cited for any traffic violation.

Sears is a student at Maplewood Elementary School. The day after the crash happened, the school sent home a letter to parents stating they had staff and counselors available for students who needed someone to talk to.
