Fundraiser held for woman who lost leg in East Austin hit-and-run

Police say Elizabeth English was tapped underneath the vehicle while the driver kept going.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Nearly six months ago, Beth English was hit by a car and dragged several blocks while riding her bike at Airport Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The crash happened in March and left English with a shattered pelvis, an amputated leg and millions of dollars in medical bills.

The driver of the car did not stop after the crash. Eventually, police arrested him and charged him with failure to stop and render aid.

On Saturday, friends and family held a fundraiser at Austin Beer Works to help pay off some of her bill and buy a prosthetic leg.

“Can’t wait for that,” English said. “Then I can move again without crutches.”

The fundraiser began at 1 p.m. and goes until 7 p.m., featuring live entertainment, an auction and a raffle.
