Fire destroys Southeast Austin mobile home

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A family of five was displaced from their home after it was destroyed by a fire Saturday afternoon.

The Austin Fire Department responded to a fire just after 2 p.m. in the 5400 block of Freidrich Lane. The first trucks got to the home within four minutes and found a heavy fire at the front of the house and extending inside.

AFD had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes. According to AFD, the flames started in a trash can on the front porch and the fire was ruled as accidental.

The damage to the home was estimated at a total of $70,000. The family, two adults and three children, are being helped by The Red Cross.
