Rider, horse hit by vehicle in northeast Travis County

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A car hit a man riding horseback in northeast Travis County Saturday night.

Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the call just after 9 p.m. in the 5200 block of E Parmer Lane, near Harris Branch Parkway. Deputies with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office says the horseback rider was riding westbound on East Parmer Lane near a bridge when he was hit. This area of East Parmer Lane is more rural and not as lit.

A man in his 40s was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with potentially life-threatening injuries. The horse died at the scene. The people in the vehicle were not injured.
