AUSTIN (KXAN) — The second murder suspect is now in custody after police have been searching for him since the death of a man in East Travis County.
Damon Danniel Fowler, 37, was arrested as a suspect in the murder of 24-year-old Kennie Crockett. According to an affidavit, around 2:20 p.m. Aug. 20 Crockett called police saying he needed officers to come to the Eagle’s Landing Apartments because he was trying to get his car back from a woman who he loaned it to. Crockett said he and his friend were able to track down the car via a GPS that was installed by the dealership.
While on the phone with the 911 dispatcher he said the woman who was driving his car and the man in the passenger seat were people he had gotten into an altercation with a few days earlier. Crockett did not approach the car and stayed in his vehicle as he told the dispatcher two men were walking towards him “as if they were going to fight.”
A few moments later, the dispatcher said they heard someone saying “do not do anything because the police were on the way,” continued in the affidavit. Immediately after, Crockett said “I got shot” and he stopped responding to the 911 dispatcher.
After the shooting, Crockett’s friend drove to a gas station at the corner of Decker Lane and Loyola Lane to call for help. The driver told police, “he shot us through a window.” Officers say Crockett died at the scene.
Donald Perkins, 50, is the second suspect currently in the Travis County Jail charged with murder.
