BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Luecke Farms is facing a new lawsuit following the October 2015 Hidden Pines fire that started on their farm and spread across Bastrop County. Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association is suing the farm asking to recoup damages it incurred when paying out insurance policies following the fire.

The suit, filed earlier this week in Bastrop County, alleges “Luecke Farms’ inadequate training and lack of oversight with regard to both safe mowing practices and fire safety, along with intentionally operating ill-equipped and ill-suited heavy equipment at a time of known heightened fire risk, all led to the ignition of vegetative material which spread to a full scale wildfire.”

The suit goes on to argue that Luecke Farms’ mowing was a violation of the Bastrop County burn ban by “engaging in in activities that foreseeably caused the ignition of vegetative material outside an enclosure which served to contain flames or sparks.”

This latest suit is in addition to a suit filed by 22 families late last year.
