AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin firefighters came to the aid of a cat needing a helping hand on Monday.

Jake’s owners were unloading groceries at their northwest Austin home when he jumped in the car without his owners knowing.

They closed the door to walk by the car and didn’t count on Jake hitting the lock button.

Austin Fire Department Engine 25’s B shift came to help Jake out. As seen in the video, Jake was semi-cooperative.

In another animal good deed by Austin firefighters in May, a deer was rescued from a MoPac storm drain.

Firefighters, concerned the deer would run back onto the frontage road, carried it to the woods for a safe release.
