AUSTIN (KXAN) — One local doctor and coach spent his Saturday afternoon swimming 10,000 yards at the Deep Eddy Pool to commemorate his 10,000th day of consecutive swimming.

Sports psychologist Keith Bell swam to raise $10,000 to fund swimming lessons for those who otherwise would not know how to swim.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler has proclaimed September 3rd as “Keith Bell’s Celebrate Swimming Day” in honor of the doctor who has raised the funds to teach a pastime to children and adults that can’t afford swim lessons.

To support Bell’s cause, visit his swimming campaign or donate to the USA Foundation’s Make a Splash campaign.

All of the donations to the Celebrate Swimming Day Campaign will fund for the swimming lessons or other swim charities. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
