A really great cocktail is more than just bells and whistles..there’s actually a science to it all. And you can apply our next lesson at home to make your own bar even better. Alicia Kim owns aka Mixology and she’s here with ways to go about it.She showed us how to make the Big Texan. The ingredients are 1 basil leaf, 2 oz a.k.a clarified grapefruit juice, 1/2 oz simple syrup, 3 drops of a.k.a saline. In a cocktail shaker, muddle or crush the basil to pull out the essential oils, add the rest of the ingredients. Be sure to stir or you’ll lose the clarity in the cocktail. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a wedge of grapefruit and basil leaf. You can find aka mixology and their products at the barton creek farmer’s market on Saturdays, or head to their website mixologyscience.com. You can also call 512-507-8147.
