AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who died when his truck hydroplaned and crashed on the South Interstate 35 frontage road last Friday has been identified.

Police say the pickup truck was driving northbound on Aug. 19 when it hydroplaned and lost control, rolling into a utility pole.

The driver, identified Thursday as Ricardo Velazquez, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 3300 block of S. I-35, between Woodward Street and East Oltorf Street.

Austin police are still investigating the crash. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-5576.

The police department says this was Austin’s 42nd deadly crash and the city’s 42nd fatality of 2016. At the same time last year, there were 65 traffic-related deaths in Austin.
