AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Bastrop I.S.D. superintendent Steve Murray joined us in the KXAN studio to talk about the upcoming school year and to answer your questions. Murray has been superintendent since 2010.

The theme of this school year is “Bastrop ISD, Proud of Our Past, Our People, and Our performance.” To highlight top students and staff the Board of Trustees will host student recognition night. “We have a special night planned at our Tuesday board meeting where we will recognize students and teachers in our AP program and award nearly $80,000,” said Murray.

We also asked Murray about safety issues from this past school year after two deadly crashes on FM 812. KXAN reported two more people have died in a one week period while traveling FM 812. Drivers pointed out the road is also surrounded by school children during high traffic times.

Bastrop ISD Stats:

  • Approximately 10,278 students
  • 15 schools
  • Student/Staff ratio: 15:1
  • Average experience of teachers; 11.1 years
