AUSTIN (KXAN) — Friends have identified the man who went missing in Lake Travis Friday night.

Cecyll Padilla said his friend Olman Ramirez is the swimmer crews have been looking for. Padilla said he drove up to the lake with other friends and family after hearing that he was missing. The group rented a boat and four jet skis to help Travis County Deputies search for Ramirez.

“We’re just hoping for the best,” Padilla said. “We haven’t lost hope yet. And we won’t until we know something.”

Around 7:30 p.m. Friday the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said a group of friends were on a boat when one of them that was in the water started struggling to swim. Ramirez, who friends say was the designated driver, jumped in to help. TCSO spokeswoman Kristen Dark said the wind may have picked up and caused the boat to drift, making it hard to swim.

The struggling swimmer was rescued by people on a second boat that stopped to help, but friends said Ramirez never made it safety onboard.

Crews with TCSO looked for the man Friday and started surface searches again Saturday, but said the rain and vast area they’re looking in made it difficult for divers to get in the water.

Padilla said the rain won’t stop him from looking for his friend.

“We’re going to be here tomorrow,” Padilla said. “Like I said, we’re not losing hope.”
