LAKE TRAVIS, Texas (KXAN) — Crews continue looking for a man last seen swimming in Lake Travis who has yet to resurface. Austin-Travis County EMS shifted to recovery mode and called of the search Friday night.

Around 7:30 p.m. Friday, first responders were called to Lake Travis, east of Emerald Point Marina, for a report of a man in the water. A designated driver of a rented boat jumped into the water to help someone struggling in the water. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office says the wind kicked up and the boat drifted away.

While a second boat arrived to help the swimmer in distress, the designated driver went under the water and has not been seen since.

A firefighter with Lake Travis Fire and Rescue was injured during the water rescue and taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge for evaluation. The department says the firefighter experienced a dizzy spell near the surface of the water.

In an unrelated case, a woman having a medical issue was also rescued from the water by emergency crews.

Travis County Sheriff’s say crews will continue a surface search Saturday afternoon.
