Austin ambassadors aim to improve your downtown experience

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin is launching a new program to improve the city for tourists and residents alike.

The Downtown Austin Alliance is taking to the streets with 22 new ambassadors focused on keeping the city safe, clean and friendly.

Ambassadors will move around on bicycles, Segways, cleaning machines and on foot. Their job includes cleaning up litter, graffiti and even giving directions to tourists.

“Each ambassador is cross-trained to deliver all services offered by the program. Ambassadors are easily recognized by their bright red shirts labeled with the Downtown Austin Alliance logo,” said De Peart, Downtown Austin Alliance CEO.

Austin has been using a similar, separate programs to provide citizen safety and clean-up patrols. Under the new Ambassador program, those responsibilities will fall under one service.
