Driver critically injured after car hits bus on FM 969

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man is at Brackenridge hospital with critical life-threatening injuries after a crash in Eastern Travis County, according to Austin/Travis County EMS.

Austin police say a Capital Metro bus and a car crashed Thursday morning around 12:45 a.m. The collision was on FM 969 at the Nixon Lane intersection near Johnny Morris Road.

According to police, the car was traveling in the middle of the 969. Investigators say the bus driver tried to swerve to avoid the car hitting the bus.

Medics took the driver of the car to the hospital but the bus driver refused treatment. Capital Metro officers are still on the scene investigating.

Buses for KIPP Austin are delayed one hour due to the crash. The school is contacting parents with texts and phone calls about the delays.
