ELGIN, Texas (KXAN) — A driver died in a major crash that shut down Highway 290 in Bastrop County at FM 696 Tuesday morning. The highway has reopened.
Joseph Osborne, 24, of McDade, was identified as the victim.
The crash was reported near Elgin around 6:50 a.m. A semi truck with a forklift was driving southbound on FM 696 — turning left onto eastbound Hwy 290 — when the driver failed to yield at a stop sign, authorities say.
Osborne was in a pickup truck driving westbound on Hwy 290 when he crashed into the forklift.
Criminal charges against the driver of the semi are pending, the Department of Public Safety said.
