AUSTIN (KXAN) — If you were around Vic Mathias Shores Monday afternoon, you were probably wondering why numerous sprinklers were watering the lawn as the sun shined above.

A KXAN photojournalist captured video of the sprinklers running around 1 p.m. The Austin Parks and Recreation Department says the sprinklers were on in order for crews to check various sections to make sure the sprinkler heads are spraying correctly and in the right place.

Most of the watering—with a whopping 318 sprinklers— is still done in the evening hours.

Last summer, the city did admit to making a mistake when it was watering Vic Mathias Shores in the middle of the afternoon. At the time, the program was reset causing the sprinklers to turn on at the wrong time.
