AUSTIN (KXAN) — Get ready for nightly lane closures this month on North Lamar Boulevard.
The Public Works Department is resurfacing the road between 39th and 45th streets. Spanning Sunday, Aug. 7 through Aug. 28, North Lamar will go down to one lane in each direction between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Drivers are asked to follow traffic signs and be careful when driving through the work zone.
The goal of the project is to reduce surface roughness and fix asphalt failures and other irregularities in the street surface. The city says the end result will provide a much smoother driving experience. Crews are using what’s called the mill and overlay process to grind up the existing asphalt and base material, remove it and then apply new pavement.
