AUSTIN (KXAN) — Local Austin groups hosted tours of area compost facilities Saturday to help spread awareness and educate the community about composting efforts and benefits in the city.

The Austin Zero Waste Alliance, joined by the Compost Coalition, Compost Pedallers and In.gredients, visited community and backyard gardens while discussing composting with community members that joined the conversation.

The groups toured several location, beginning at Sunshine Community Gardens at 10 a.m., aiming to highlight the recycling opportunities Austin has to offer.

The tour comes as the Austin City Council prepares to make a decision about investing more money into recycling and composting programs.
