AUSTIN (KXAN) — Drivers on South Congress Avenue will have an extra lane to use beginning Sunday night.
Barricades will be removed by crews, allowing traffic to use the newly constructed five-lane road that stretches from Eberhart Lane to Foremost Drive.
The project, which cost more than $6 million to complete, widened the road and added a center turn lane, bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the street.
“The project will enhance safety and mobility for motorists on this heavily-traveled roadway,” Victor Vargas, a TxDOT area engineer, said.
Drivers can still expect some overnight lane closures while crews do more work on the road and sidewalks. The project should be fully finished later this summer.
