Team USA, Shaka Smart grab gold at FIBA Americas

CHILE (KXAN) — Team USA and the Texas Longhorns grabbed gold Saturday night at FIBA Americas Championship. Team USA’s under 18 team, coached by Longhorn Shaka Smart, beat Canada 99-84 in the gold medal game.

Texas freshman Jarrett Allen started for Team USA scoring 10 points with 8 rebounds, two assists and two steals in 33 minutes of play. Longhorn freshman James Banks did not play in the championship game.

The under 18 squad went a perfect 5-for-5 in the Americas tournament wrapping up their fifth straight day of competition with the win against Canada.
