BUDA, Texas (KXAN) — A SWAT standoff in Buda that started after a woman was found with two gunshot wounds in her front yard has ended.

A man who refused to come out of the house on Fletcher Bend after the shooting Wednesday afternoon is dead. Buda police say Sejdalija Smajic, 53, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His wife, Mejra Smajic, was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries and underwent surgery.

Buda police are still investigating and believe Sejadalija Smajic shot his wife.

The city of Buda says police were called to the Garlic Creek subdivision at around 4:30 p.m. The city says there was a language barrier with the suspect and authorities were never able to establish contact with him.

David Marino, a public information officer for the city of Buda, says an Austin police robot with a camera went inside the home. Police were then able to see that the man was dead. Marino would not say how he died.

Some homes in the area were evacuated, Buda police say. No one else was in the home with the suspect.
