Producer, writer, director Garry Marshall dies at 81

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KXAN) — The creator of Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and The Odd Couple has passed away.

Garry Marshall, 81, is known for the numerous movies and TV shows he was a part of from producer, to writer and director. His directing credits include Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, The Princess Diaries and Overboard.

He was also an actor who appeared in more than 80 TV shows and movies. You can see Marshall in a League of Their Own directed by his sister Penny Marshall.

In a statement from his publicist, he said Marshall died of complications from pneumonia after having a stroke.

Actor Richard Gere said “Everyone loved Garry. He was a mentor and a cheerleader and one of the funniest men who ever lived. He had a heart of the purest gold and a soul full of mischief. He was Garry.”
