RIO DE JANEIRO (NBC Olympics) — The sport of rugby sevens will be making its debut at the Rio Olympics, and the U.S. Women’s squad will be led by Aleve Kelter, who always knew she would make it to the Olympics… she just wasn’t sure in what sport.

“Rugby makes a good Olympic sport because it’s fast paced. There’s contact some people like to see that um…it’s safe,” says Kelter.

Keleter originally tried out for the National Soccer Team and National Hockey Team when she was 14 and she made both!

“After making both, I remember stopping and saying, this is a reality. Hockey and soccer have lead me to become the competitor I am today and be successful as I am. But, rugby right now is my favorite sport that I am focusing on. I have fallen so in love with it that I am going to encourage everyone to start with rugby.”
