Ryan Newsome transferring from Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Sophomore Wide Receiver Ryan Newsome announced on twitter Sunday night that he has decided to transfer from Texas. The sophomore from Aledo said “this is a decision that has been on my heart a while now and is something that has been difficult to process, but I’ve realized that it is only necessary for my career going forward.”

Newsome played sparingly in 2015, appearing in seven games and catching four passes for a total of 23 yards.

Texas returns six receivers with more catches than Newsome last year along with the addition of freshman Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay who are expected to see significant playing time right away.

Head Coach Charlie Strong will speak on Tuesday at Big 12 Media Days in Dallas.
