AUSTIN (KXAN) — Wednesday marks one year since the death of Sandra Bland in the Waller County Jail.

More than a hundred people marched from the Victory Grill in East Austin to the State Capitol.

The march called for an end to violence by law enforcement.

The death of the 28-year-old on July 13, 2015 was ruled a suicide when she was found dead three days after she was booked into jail.

The trooper who pulled Bland over was charged with perjury after dash cam video appeared to show him yelling at Bland and escalating their confrontation. The former trooper claimed Bland was behaving “combative and uncooperative.”
