4 things to know about food allergies

1. Food allergies can develop at anytime – Food allergies usually develop in childhood, but they can develop at any time of your life.

2. You can reduce the severity of your reactions to food allergies – Food allergy drops allow the body to build more resistance to allergies to the point where accidentally eating a peanut wouldn’t threaten your life.

3. Food allergies are not the same as food sensitivities – A food sensitivity means mild discomfort and symptoms from certain foods. A food allergy means a significant reaction that could be life-threatening.

4. The smallest food particle could cause a serious reaction – A whiff of peanuts dust could cause someone with peanut allergies to go into anaphylaxis.

Food allergies can be treated using food allergy drops which will build a patient’s tolerance to a food allergy so that any exposure should only cause mild to no reaction.

Texan Allergy is currently offering food allergy testing and treatment at all of their locations. They test for 38 different food allergies which cover 98% of the foods that people are allergic to.

If you or someone else is suffering from a severe reaction to a food allergy, use an Epinephrine pen and immediately call 911 or get to the nearest urgent care clinic.
