Phoenix, Arizona (KPNX/NBC News) A troubling incident was captured on live television during a reporter’s live-shot Monday evening.
KPNX reporter Joe Dana was covering the sentencing phase of a trial when a man was seen striking a wheelchair-bound woman in the background of the shot.
The newsroom was immediately flooded with calls from concerned viewers. Police said they also received calls from concerned citizens.
After responding to the incident and interviewing the two people involved, Phoenix police arrested 60-year-old Randall Burgess.
According to court records, Burgess has a history of charges and convictions involving aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, fighting, and probation violations. Burgess was placed on probation last month for a 2015 case involving felony resisting arrest.
