Former Longhorn, Astro on ballot for final All-Star spot

SAN DIEGO (KXAN) — The rosters for the 2016 All-Star game are almost complete.

Tuesday, Major League Baseball released the teams for the Mid-Summer Classic. Two Astros and two Rangers made the squad, with Houston’s Jose Altuve as the only starter in his fourth appearance. Astros pitcher Will Harris earned his first All-Star nod.

Texas’ Cole Hamels will also pitcher for the American League, while Ian Desmond will come off the bench.

But there are still two more spots, one for each team, to be filled out before the rosters are finalized.

Former Longhorn and San Francisco first baseman Brandon Belt is one of five finalists for the last NL spot, which will be voted on by fans. So far this year, Belt is batting .297 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI.

Astros outfielder George Springer could give Houston three All-Stars if he wins the fan vote for the final spot on the AL roster.

Fan voting ends Friday at 3:00 CT. This year’s All-Star game is July 12 in San Diego.
