APD: 155 DWI arrests during ‘No Refusal’

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police have released their most recent totals from their No Refusal Initiative.

From June 24 through July 4, Austin police made a total of 155 DWI arrests. The hours of “no refusal” were from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. June 24 through 30, and 24 hours for July 1 through 4.

“The department is dedicated to making the roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement,” said APD in a statement released with the “no refusal” numbers.

  • 77 Blood search warrants
  • Total: 155

One man was arrested on Lake Travis after a boat collision. Christopher Riley, 27, is being charged with boating while intoxicated. Ten people were rescued in the boat crash, sending four to the hospital.

During Austin police’s last initiative, Operation Dry Water, at the end of June they reported zero arrests. The nationwide operation targeted intoxicated boaters a week before the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
